Dr. Sam Fischer

I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Rhode Island in 2012, and I've been in the field for over 20 years, with 14 of those years focused specifically on outpatient orthopedics. My clinical focus is functional biomechanics and post-surgical rehab, with a specialty in foot and ankle. I've also spent time in home health and acute care, which gave me a real appreciation for the challenges patients face as they progress toward outpatient PT — I try to keep that perspective in mind with every patient I treat.

Before going back for my doctorate, I was certified in Pedorthics and worked in a busy outpatient practice as a foot/ankle specialist, fabricating custom orthotics and providing professional shoe fitting services. That background still shapes a lot of how I approach lower extremity care today.

Over the years I've completed numerous continuing education courses covering foot/ankle biomechanics, shoulder injuries and surgeries, and spine rehab. I'm certified in Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute, which focuses on movement analysis and individualized treatment prescription, and I'm also certified in dry needling. I've developed training and shoe fitting programs for high school cross country teams, and I've guest lectured at the university level on foot/ankle biomechanics and orthotic approaches for PTs.

I founded Choice City PT because I wanted to build a practice that provides better care in a fun, relaxed environment — one where patients are treated as people, not numbers.

What I love about working here: not having a boss, and getting to treat patients the way I truly believe they deserve to be cared for.

Outside the clinic, I golf (badly) and mountain bike (also badly). I generally like not doing work stuff, though that's not always realistic. I've got a dog named Kevin who I impulsively adopted and who is, frankly, pretty dope. And I love anything to do with water, especially the ocean — which is unfortunate, given that I live in a high desert.

Philosophy

Do The Hard Thing.

LIfe is more rewarding when we challenge ourselves and laugh while doing it. Challenging your comfort zone, push yourself harder than you think you can. Rehab isn't easy; but, those who flirt with what they think they are capable of have the best outcomes. It's time for a little type 2 fun.
